NORWOOD – A homicide investigation is underway this evening after a man was shot and killed in a residential neighborhood in Norwood on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, Norwood Police responded to the area of 9 Hoyle Street shortly before 2:00 p.m. following a 911 call requesting assistance.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities stated the victim was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending family notification.
While the investigation is in its early stages, officials are moving to reassure the community regarding safety concerns.
“Based on preliminary information, Norwood Police Chief Christopher Padden advises that there is no cause for the public to be alarmed for their own safety.”
The investigation is currently active and is being conducted jointly by the Norwood Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities noted that no further details regarding the circumstances of the shooting or potential suspects will be released this evening. -RD
