NORWOOD – A significant new development could be coming to the south end of the Automile. The Norwood Planning Board has officially scheduled a public hearing to discuss a Major Project Special Permit for a sprawling motor vehicle sales and storage facility spanning from 1325-1369 Providence Highway and continue to the rear property of 112 Sumner Street.

The proposal, which targets a sizable footprint, will include the property where the former Sky restaurant and Furlongs Candies were located all the way to the corner of Norwood Park South.

The construction of this new sales and vehicle storage center is planned to exceed 100 spaces, which requires a rigorous review process under local zoning bylaws.

The Planning Board will be evaluating the application based on Sections 3.2, 7.4, and 10.5 of the Norwood Zoning Bylaw. Key areas of review will include a thorough site plan review to ensure the layout, traffic flow, and environmental impact meet town standards; major project special permit review which is necessary for high-capacity parking and large-scale commercial use; and finally zoning relief to determine if any additional variances or relief required for the project to move forward in adherence to town laws.

Interested persons are encouraged to attend the hearing and make their views known to the Board, the official notice states, emphasizing the importance of community feedback on local land use.

Residents and stakeholders have two ways to participate in the discussion on Monday, March 23, 2026 at 7:00 PM. If you can attend in person it will be held at the Norwood Senior Center, 275 Prospect Street or virtuallymeet.google.com/mhu-ifvs-njz   phone: +1 401-646-2388 (PIN: 517 092 088 #). -RD
