NORWOOD – Police have apprehended a Westwood man suspected of orchestrating a multi-day bank fraud string that drained at least $8,000 from area financial institutions.

The arrest occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 12, after Norwood Police say they responded to a report of a man attempting to cash a counterfeit check at a local branch.

According to Norwood Police call logs, officers were dispatched to Rockland Trust Bank on Lenox St after a male party described as a white male with a beard, wearing a beanie and a hoodie attempted to pass a fake check. Police say the subject was later identified as 48 year old Benjamin Alan Davis of Westwood and reportedly linked to a series of similar fraudulent transactions at various banks over the previous several days.

Norwood Police acted swiftly to secure the scene reviewing surveillance footage and gather evidence of the transaction.

Investigators believe Davis’s activities were not limited to a single incident. Rockland Trust Bank alleges the spree resulted in the theft of over $8,000 in just a few days, involving multiple forged documents and identity theft according to the complaint.

Davis was subsequently arraigned in Dedham District Court for Uttering a False Check; Larceny Over $1,200; Identity Fraud; and Forgery/Misuse of RMV Document, according to Police records.

Benjamin Davis is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. -RD
