NORWOOD – As the nights grow longer and the first whispers of winter weather approach, the Norwood Police Department has issued a reminder to all residents: the annual Winter Overnight Parking Ban is now in effect, continuing through April 1, 2026.

According to the NPD, the seasonal restriction is designed to ensure that Norwood’s streets remain safe and passable by allowing snow plows the ability to clear roads for emergency vehicles during and after a storm.

“This seasonal restriction helps keep our roads safe and clear for emergency vehicles, snow plows, and our entire community during winter weather,” a recent media release stated.

Norwood residents and guests are reminded to comply with the following regulations:

General Overnight Parking: No vehicle is permitted to park on any town street or in town-owned lots for more than two hours between 12:00 AM and 6:00 AM. This restriction applies nightly, regardless of current weather conditions.

Commercial Vehicle Restriction: Commercial vehicles exceeding 2.5 tons are prohibited from parking on residential streets for more than one hour between 12:00 AM and 8:00 AM, unless actively making a delivery.

Snow Plowing Interference: Any vehicle found interfering with snow plowing or snow removal operations will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Need an Exemption? Apply for a Permit

The town acknowledges that some residents may have exceptional circumstances. For those who require an overnight parking exception, the Town of Norwood offers a Winter Parking Permit. Residents can apply for a permit either in person at the Town Hall (General Manager’s office) or conveniently online. The application period runs from October 15th to March 27th.

Apply Online: Residents can find the application and more details at the following link: https://www.norwoodma.gov/news_detail_T13_R767.php.

Inside Norwood urges all residents to heed this reminder now to avoid inconvenience and potential towing costs later, ensuring a smooth and safe winter for all who live and travel in town. -RD
