NORWOOD — Today’s snowstorm turned into a scene of tragedy at the Norwood Central MBTA station after a private plow truck struck a married couple, killing a 51-year-old woman and injuring her husband.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. as the couple was walking through the station’s parking lot. According to MBTA Transit Police, the driver of a Ford F-350, a 33-year-old man working for a private company contracted by the MBTA for snow removal, was operating the vehicle in reverse when he struck the pair.

Emergency responders arrived to find the 51-year-old woman suffering from significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 47-year-old husband was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan called the event “an unimaginable, horrific incident.”

The driver of the plow remained at the scene following the collision and is reportedly cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

While the MBTA oversees the station, officials clarified that the operator was not a direct MBTA employee but was working for a third-party contractor hired to clear snow from the lot during the storm.

As of Sunday night, the parking lot remained a focal point for investigators. Local residents who frequent the Norwood Central station are reminded to exercise extreme caution in MBTA lots during snow removal operations, as visibility is often limited for heavy machinery operators.

This story is developing. We will provide updates as more information regarding the victims and the investigation becomes available. -RD
