NORWOOD – For a brief moment on Wednesday afternoon, a major street-level operation appeared to be unfolding right on Washington Street.
According to Norwood Police Department June 10 call log, an officer on patrol noticed something unusual outside the Convenient Food Mart at 1237 Washington St.
The officer reported a high volume of quick, back-to-back hand exchanges between a female subject and passerby’s. The officer watched her as she sat outside the storefront, conducting what appeared to be rapid “hand-to-hand transactions” with approximately 20 different men.
Several officers responded to assist in what they assumed was something nefarious.
However, when officers approached the woman to investigate the nature of the rapid-fire deals, the tension quickly evaporated.
It turns out the entrepreneur wasn’t dealing anything illicit, rather she was selling car diffusers—small, portable air fresheners designed to keep vehicle interiors smelling fresh.
The woman explained to the responding officers that she was just running a perfectly legal pop-up shop and had full permission from the Convenient Food Mart store owners to set up on the property.
The steady stream of customers was simply local drivers looking to upgrade their car scents.
Having verified that the only things hitting the streets of Norwood were pleasant aromas, all police units cleared the scene without incident.
Shoutout to NPD for their keen observation and quick response. Although this was an innocent entrepreneur, a brief interaction with cooperative participants goes a long way to keep Norwood safe. -RD
