NORWOOD – Keeping your home clutter-free just got more expensive for Norwood residents.
If you are planning a mid-summer basement cleanout or upgrades to your living room furniture, you’ll have to pay more. According to an alert published today on the town’s official social media page, the cost of curbside bulk item disposal increased starting July 1, 2026. The bright orange bulk item stickers will now cost $45 per item due to the scaling costs in the town’s contract with Waste Management.
While the price tag is going up, the core rules of the town’s disposal program will remain the same. Residents are still capped at a maximum of three bulk items per week for curbside collection.
However, under the new pricing structure, hitting that weekly maximum will now run households a hefty $135 if they need to clear out multiple large pieces of furniture or old appliances at once.
What counts as a bulk item? Typically, this includes any household goods too large to fit into your standard weekly trash bin, such as mattresses, couches, large wooden dining sets, and major appliances.
The town is keeping its traditional, in-person purchasing process intact. If you need to schedule a pickup under the new rates, here is what you need to do. First, bring cash to the Treasurer’s Office, located on the 1st floor of Town Hall. The payment window does not accept credit cards or checks for bulk stickers, so be sure to hit the ATM before you head to Town Hall.
Once you purchase your stickers, you must attach them directly to your large items and place them out on the curb according to your neighborhood’s designated bulk pickup schedule.
With inflation and rising municipal service contracts continuing to squeeze local budgets, this latest hike serves as a stark reminder that the baseline cost of living in, and maintaining a home in Norwood is still on the rise. -RD
