NORWOOD – For nearly half a century, the Norwood Bicycle Depot has been more than just a place to get a flat tire fixed or pick up a new set of wheels. It has been a cornerstone of the community; a local landmark where generations of residents learned to ride, swapped stories, and found a friendly face behind the counter.

Now, after 48 years of dedicated service to the town, the beloved local institution is preparing to close its doors permanently.

The bittersweet announcement follows the heartbreaking passing of the shop’s longtime owner and operator, Doug Tyree, whose warmth, expertise, and passion for the community defined the business for decades.

To honor Doug’s legacy and clear out the remaining inventory, his wife, Jeannie, will be hosting a series of Going Out of Business sales over the next two Saturdays: June 20, and June 27. The sales will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.

According to the family, absolutely everything must go. Neighbors and cycling enthusiasts alike will find liquidation deals on all rRemaining bicycles and skateboards; Parts and specialized components; Riding accessories, safety gear, and more.

While the sale offers a chance for locals to find great deals, it also provides a meaningful opportunity for the Norwood community to come together, share memories of Doug, and directly support his family during an incredibly difficult time of loss.

In a poignant farewell message to the community, the family expressed their deep gratitude for nearly five decades of local loyalty.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported the shop over the years. We hope to see you there.”

As its final chapters are written this month, the community has one last chance to stop by, say goodbye, and show Jeannie and the rest of Doug’s family the same unwavering support they gave to Norwood for so long. -RD
