WALPOLE – Police say they arrested a 24-year-old Walpole man after he was allegedly observed exposing himself at Bird Park, according to a press release.
The incident happened at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Monday September 22, 2025 when Walpole Emergency Communications Center received a call from a citizen that a male subject had been seen exposing himself near the park’s playground, an area frequented by parents and young children.
Police say a second witness confronted the suspect, who then fled. The witness pursued the suspect for a short time but eventually lost sight of him.
Walpole Police “saturated the area” in an attempt to locate the individual. An immediate investigation began, with officers speaking to several witnesses who provided crucial information. Shortly thereafter, a member of the department’s patrol division located a subject matching the description and conducted a traffic stop.
During the interaction, police say a “brief struggle” broke out between the suspect and officers, however cops were able to place the subject into custody. No injuries were reported as a result of the altercation.
In a press release, Walpole police identified the subject as Matthew Springer (24) of Walpole. Springer was charged with open and gross lewdness, disorderly conduct, and interfering with a police officer.
Springer was transported to Wrentham District Court for arraignment. Police say because the investigation is active and ongoing, no further information will be released at this time.
The Trustees, who manage Bird Park, could not be reached for comment.
Springer is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. -RD
