NORWOOD – A three-month investigation into a shooting that unsettled a Norwood neighborhood last fall has resulted in a significant break in the case. The Norwood Police Department announced today the arrest of a 16-year-old male from Brockton in connection with the September 24 incident.

Early Thursday morning, Norwood Police Detectives, assisted by the Brockton Police Department and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, executed an arrest warrant at a residence in Brockton. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Norwood Police Department for booking.

Due to his age, the suspect’s identity is being withheld in accordance with Massachusetts state law. However, police have confirmed that the 16-year-old is facing serious charges, including:

  • Armed Assault with Intent to Rob
  • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery
  • Attempted Armed Robbery

The charges stem from a violent incident on the night of Sept. 24, when Norwood Police received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire near the intersection of Columbine Road and Woodbine Road.

Following extensive forensic investigation and interviews, detectives determined that the shooting was not a random event. Investigators allege that the victim was lured to the residential area under the pretense of a marijuana transaction, only to be targeted for an armed robbery.

Norwood Police Chief Christopher Padden praised the collaborative effort that led to the arrest.

“This arrest is the result of tireless work by our detectives and the critical cooperation of our law enforcement partners in Brockton and Plymouth County. While today marks significant progress, our work is not finished” Chief Padden said.

Authorities emphasize that the investigation remains active. Detectives are currently pursuing leads related to the conspiracy element of the crime, and the department has indicated that more charges are expected to follow.

Norwood Police are asking anyone who may have information regarding this incident, or who observed suspicious activity in the Columbine/Woodbine Road area on the night of Sept. 24, to contact Detective Sinclair at 781-440-5193.

The above incidents and charges are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. -RD
