NORWOOD – A local man is facing felony charges after allegedly targeting a Washington Street barbershop in a double-hit overnight break-in that left the business with extensive damage, police said.

Allen Malloy, 64, of Norwood, was arrested Wednesday morning following a swift investigation by the Norwood Police Department.

Officers responded to a reported breaking and entering at Chris and Sam’s barbershop located at 1076 Washington St. around 7:34 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15. They found the front glass door had been shattered, and the interior of the business had sustained severe property damage.

According to their press release, police reviewed surveillance footage that showed a male subject using what appeared to be a baseball bat to smash through the front door. Once inside, he caused significant damage to the shop. Approximately an hour after the initial break-in, the suspect returned to the scene to inflict a second round of property damage.

Norwood police officers allege Malloy was the man captured on that footage and located him at his local residence. While taking him into custody, officers allegedly recovered the baseball bat believed to have been used in the vandalism.

Police say Malloy has been charged with breaking and entering a building in the nighttime (two counts) and malicious destruction of property Over $1,200.

Malloy is currently being held and is expected to be arraigned in Dedham District Court.

The motive behind the targeted destruction remains unclear. We will update this story as more details from the arraignment become available. -RD
