NORWOOD – A Kentucky man is behind bars after a multi-agency response intercepted a Sunday night commercial break-in and firearm theft at a local business, Norwood Police Chief Christopher Padden announced Monday.
Aaron Woodrum, 33, of Kentucky, faces multiple felony charges following an alleged late-night heist at Liberty Ordnance Supply, located at 100 Access Road.
The incident began unfolding at approximately 11:42 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, when Norwood Police received a call from the business owner. According to authorities, the owner was actively monitoring his store’s surveillance cameras from a remote location and witnessed an intruder inside the shop removing firearms and ammunition from display cases.
The suspect, allegedly identified as Woodrum, was seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, a mask, and gloves.
Norwood patrol officers from both the evening and overnight shifts flooded the area and established a tight perimeter around the Access Road business.
Upon arrival, officers discovered clear evidence of forced entry into the building. While officers cleared the interior of the shop, K-9 teams began tracking the suspect’s scent through the dark.
State Police Trooper Timothy Malo and his K-9 partner, Ramon, alongside Hingham Police Officer Ryan Ross and K-9 Gary, led the search. The tracking effort paid off when Trooper Malo and K-9 Ramon successfully followed the trail to the backyard of a residence on nearby Neponset Street. There, investigators recovered a cache of stolen firearms and the clothing Woodrum allegedly wore during the break-in.
A break in the case came Monday morning, May 18, when police were called to a local hotel for an unrelated disturbance involving a man refusing to leave the property. Responding officers identified the man as Woodrum and placed him under arrest based on evidence gathered overnight by Norwood Police Detective Ryan Sinclair.
Investigators later learned that Woodrum had allegedly visited Liberty Ordnance Supply a few days prior to the burglary, effectively scouting the location.
“This arrest was the result of a coordinated effort by our patrol officers, detectives, Massachusetts State Police personnel and assisting K-9 teams,” Chief Christopher Padden said in a statement. “The rapid response overnight, combined with strong investigative work, allowed officers to quickly identify and apprehend a suspect while also recovering the stolen firearms.”
Woodrum was transported to Dedham District Court for arraignment on Monday. He currently faces a list of charges, including:
- Breaking and Entering a Firearm Distributor
- Breaking and Entering a Building During the Nighttime with Intent to Commit a Felony
- Larceny of a Firearm (Four Counts)
- Larceny Under $1,200
- Vandalizing Property (Two Counts)
Chief Padden noted more charges may be added as the investigation continues.
Norwood detectives are currently piecing together Woodrum’s movements in the days leading up to his arrest and asking anyone who may have seen Woodrum or has information regarding his recent whereabouts contact the Norwood Police Department at 781-440-5100.
Editor’s Note: These are allegations. Woodrum is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
