NORWOOD – Norwood Police are investigating a concerning report after a parent contacted police Tuesday morning alleging a man followed her two young daughters through a local grocery store.
According to police radio transmissions, the report was made at 11:22 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from the Big Y supermarket on Walpole Street.
A mother contacted police stating that her two juvenile daughters were shopping in the store when an unknown male party began following them through nearly every aisle. The girls told their mother the man’s behavior made them feel extremely uncomfortable.
The juveniles managed to leave the store safely and reach their vehicle, where they contacted their family. The caller reported the children’s father was headed to the Walpole Street supermarket to investigate and to ensure his daughters’ safety while police dispatched units to the scene.
According to Norwood police radio, a store employee also witnessed the suspicious behavior.
This incident comes just months after a similar situation in town common involving young girls being followed.
On May 25, 2026, an employee at Daddy’s Dairy alerted authorities after observing a man closely following a group of juvenile girls and appearing to film them on his phone. In that instance, the young girls sought safety near a couple by the Gazebo before heading to a nearby restaurant to contact their parents (read fill story here).
While no criminal charges were filed in the May incident, store management issued a formal trespass order prohibiting the man from returning to the business.
Details regarding the outcome of the Big Y incident have yet to be released by Norwood Police. However, this incident serves as another reminder to residents and local shoppers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the Norwood Police immediately. -RD
