NORWOOD — Local law enforcement flooded the area surrounding the commuter rail tracks and Rama Plaza early Sunday afternoon following reports of a violent armed robbery and home invasion at a nearby apartment complex.
According to police dispatch transmissions, officers were dispatched at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 4 after a Chapel St. resident reported that three men forced their way into his Chapel Street apartment. The victim told dispatchers that the intruders pointed handguns at him and stole personal belongings before fleeing the scene on foot toward the adjacent railroad tracks.
Multiple officers converged on the neighborhood to set up a perimeter, expanding their search to encompass the MBTA train station platform, Rama Plaza, and the brush lining the right-of-way.
During the sweep, officers spotted a male individual wearing a black backpack walking north near the tracks. As responding units moved in to intercept and question him, the suspect reportedly discarded the backpack before being approached by police.
Neighbors told Inside Norwood they saw Norwood Police officers take two male subjects into custody, however we have not confirmed whether these persons were involved in the incident.
Authorities have not yet formally confirmed the identity or the exact number of individuals taken into custody as the initial investigation remains active and fluid. Investigators remained on scene Sunday afternoon gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses in the Chapel Street area.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as official details are released by the Norwood Police Department.
