NORWOOD – A Saturday night at a local hangout took a chaotic turn last weekend when a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation outside Napper Tandy’s on Day Street.
According to the police report, at approximately 9:45 PM on January 31, Norwood Police were dispatched to the pub following reports of a fight between two men. By the time officers arrived, they had already fled the scene; one in a grey sedan driven by his father, and the other in a black Uber.
The quick response from Norwood PD led to both parties being located shortly after the incident. Officer Osowski intercepted the grey sedan at the McDonald’s on Broadway.
Police say the passenger (Subject 1) was acting erratically and shouting at officers. Despite the tension, Subject 1 declined medical evaluation from the Norwood Fire Department, instead choosing to tell officers he was a “Warrior” and claiming that the other individual involved was “lucky to be alive.”
Simultaneously, Officer Willman conducted a motor vehicle stop on a black Uber on Walpole Street to interview the second individual (Subject 2).
The investigation into what sparked the brawl led officers back to the staff and witnesses at Napper Tandy’s.
Witness accounts suggest that Subject 1 had been asked to leave the establishment due to his erratic behavior. The physical altercation reportedly began when Subject 1, after initially leaving, returned to the front of the bar and approached Subject 2. Witnesses and Subject 2 both stated that Subject 1 began “flailing his arms” and yelling in the other man’s face. Fearing an imminent assault, Subject 2 admitted to punching Subject 1 once in the face to create distance.
Following the single punch, Subject 1 reportedly stumbled back and retreated to his father’s vehicle.
While the incident caused a stir on Day Street, no serious injuries were reported, and both men declined medical attention. No arrests and at the time of this article, no charges have been filed.
Norwood Police would not identify those involved and have not responded to our request for comment. -RD
