NORWOOD – Local authorities are searching for the operators of two mopeds who led a Norwood police officer on a brief, high-speed chase through town late Friday night before fleeing into neighboring Westwood.
According to official Norwood Police Department logs, the incident began at approximately 10:58 p.m. on June 26, when Officer Meegan attempted to initiate a routine motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Washington and Everett Streets.
Police say instead of pulling over, both moped operators accelerated and refused to stop.
Officer Meegan reported that the mopeds reached speeds of up to 50 mph as they headed northwest through town. Due to safety protocols and the vehicles approaching the town border, the pursuit was terminated as the mopeds crossed the line into Westwood.
Norwood dispatchers immediately notified the Westwood Police Department of the incoming fleeing vehicles. Westwood authorities dispatched units to search the area, though no arrests have been reported at this time.
The incident has been officially logged under report number 26NWD-576-OF. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the operators or the incident is encouraged to contact the Norwood Police Department at 781-440-5100. -RD
