NORWOOD – A routine afternoon walk to the library turned into a police response on Friday when a local resident stumbled upon suspected illegal narcotics scattered across a public sidewalk on Washington Street.
According to a Norwood Police report, at approximately 2:49 p.m. on July 17, officers were dispatched to the area of 649 Washington St. following a call from a concerned citizen.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers met with the reporting party, who stated she was walking to Morrill Memorial Library with her young daughter when she spotted suspicious items on the ground.
At the scene, Officer Callahan observed a small, knotted plastic bag along with several white pills strewn across the pavement.
Officers safely collected the contraband and transported it back to the police station for processing. The contents of the knotted bag were tentatively identified as crystal methamphetamine, weighing in at 3.5 grams (including the packaging). The loose white pills were identified as suspected Xanax, totaling 8 grams including road debris collected alongside them.
The recovered substances were secured in an evidence locker and are scheduled for destruction. -RD
