NORWOOD – With the Democratic primary election just days away, local grassroots group Progress Norwood has published Progressive Massachusetts’ endorsements drawing clear distinctions between several contested candidates.
Progress Norwood is a group aimed at organizing and supporting progressive and inclusive values in Norwood. In a social media post published this week, the group reminded residents that while there are 15 total offices listed on the Democratic primary ballot, five key contested races highlight a division between long-serving incumbents and progressive challengers.
The primary endorsements focus on key federal, state, and county races:
- U.S. Senate: Longtime incumbent Ed Markey, who has served in the Senate since 2013, earned the endorsement of Progressive Massachusetts over challenger Seth Moulton.
- U.S. House of Representatives (8th District): In the congressional district that includes Norwood, challenger Patrick Roath received the progressive nod over 12-term incumbent Stephen Lynch.
- State Senate (Norfolk and Suffolk District): Challenger Persis Yu was endorsed over incumbent Michael Rush, who has represented the district since 2011.
- Norfolk County District Attorney: With incumbent Michael Morrissey not seeking re-election, a crowded field of challengers is vying for the open seat. Progressive Massachusetts has backed Djuna Perkins.
- Governor’s Council (4th District): Neither 33-year incumbent Christopher Iannella nor challenger Ronald Primo Iacobucci received an endorsement from the organization.

Voters in Norwood can check their voter registration status and locate their assigned polling place through the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s online portal or by contacting the Norwood Town Clerk’s office. Polling stations across town will be open on Primary Day, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026. -RD
