NORWOOD – As the April 6 Town Election approaches, the race for School Committee is heating up with candidates hitting the pavement to connect with residents. Among those seeking a seat is Mike Sangalang, a 12-year Norwood resident and active school parent who is officially launching his “Strong schools, strong town” message this week.

Sangalang, who currently has children at both the Coakley Middle School and Cleveland Elementary, is no stranger to the inner workings of the district. He recently served on the 2025 Norwood Superintendent Search Committee and is a familiar face in the community as a longtime youth soccer coach and member of the Norwood Parents Music Association.

“I am running for School Committee because I see strong public schools as essential to a healthy, vibrant Norwood,” Sangalang stated in a recent press release. “Maintaining our strong schools will keep Norwood an attractive place to raise a family.”

Professionally, Sangalang points to his background in journalism and public policy communications as a key asset. He argues that his experience in these fields will allow him to bridge the gap between parents, educators, and town officials to find collaborative solutions for the district’s “academic, athletic, and arts programs.”

Voters will have the opportunity to meet Sangalang in person and discuss his platform at an upcoming meet-and-greet:

  • When: Thursday, March 19 at 7:00 PM
  • Where: Napper Tandy’s, 46 Day Street, Norwood
  • Details: Hosted by the Committee to Elect Mike Sangalang for Norwood Schools.

For those unable to attend, more information is available via the campaign’s social media page at facebook.com/mikefornorwoodschools.
