NORWOOD – A report of a disturbance on Short Street this weekend escalated into a tense police response.
According to neighbors, this past Saturday evening, July 25, 2026, NPD officers who were canvassing the neighborhood advised residents to remain inside and lock their doors while they searched for a suspect who fled.
According to Norwood Police dispatch transmissions, just after 3:00 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a home on Short Street following reports of a dispute and possible assault.
Upon arrival, officers reported a male subject allegedly barricaded himself inside a room. Audio from police scanner traffic captures the escalating urgency of the situation as responding officers moved into position to contain the residence:
“He just barricaded himself in a room… Bring me a shield…” an officer transmitted, requesting a tactical ballistic shield and asking for additional units to cover potential exit points.
As officers surrounded the home, and called for additional specialized equipment, requesting a 40mm less-lethal launcher as they observed signs of a potential escape.
“It’s an open screen here… bring me a ballistic… Next unit, bring a 40 as well,” an officer reported. “Looks like… the window screen is taken out.”
Responding units realized the suspect may have knocked out the window screen, climbed out, and fled on foot toward the rear of the property, heading up a heavily wooded hill behind the home.
Officers searched the surrounding neighborhood, and out of an abundance of caution, police instructed nearby residents to remain indoors, secure their windows, and keep their doors locked while law enforcement swept the area.
At the time of this article, it’s unclear whether the individual was located or if any injuries were reported during the initial disturbance.
