NORWOOD – A driver-in-training lost control at Highland Cemetery, striking three headstones according to details released from a Norwood Police Department crash report.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2026 when dispatch received a call from the cemetery manager reporting that a vehicle had driven off the cemetery roadway and run over several headstones.
Upon arrival, responding officers allegedly found the vehicle parked inside the grounds with moderate front-end damage.
According to the official police report, a passenger explained that she was teaching her granddaughter how to drive. As the young driver approached a hill within the cemetery grounds, she failed to brake or turn, driving straight into three headstones.
The collision allegedly dislodged three headstones from their bases and damaged the surrounding lawn. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle remained operable following the crash.
Cemetery officials later confirmed the grounds have been restored.
“It was an accident and the grave stones have been reset,” Cemetery Superintendent Charlie Walsh told Inside Norwood in an email. -RD
